As Jamie Foxx continues to fuel his "Blame It" tour from New Orleans to Los Angeles, the musician/actor said it all began with comedy.
"Intuition," Foxx's third studio album was released Dec. 16, 2008 and debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard's Top 200 and No. 2 on R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, with sales of 265,000 copies in its first week. Since its release, Intuition has been a Top 10 staple on R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, peaking at No. 1 three times. But before the films, music and the "Blame It" tour, Foxx said in a phone interview, he was just another stand-up comedian. QUESTION: Jamie, your career began with comedy. Has that all changed since you have proven your equally as talented with music? JAMIE FOXX: People know me from the stand-up, so I have to service that. Of course many of my fans still know me from my Wanda character on ("In Living Color"). Either way, I'm coming back. It's like the old western where the cowboy walks in the saloon. Jamie still has it. He's back. Q: Do you keep in touch with any of the Wayans since your early days on "In Living Color"? JF: I don't call them up and say "hey man, what's up?" or anything. But L.A. is small when it comes to seeing people in the biz. Q: Do you still consider yourself a singer and musician first, and an actor second? JF: Mmmm. Mmmm. I don't know now. I'm schizophrenic. I just don't know (laughs). I think it's all fuel … I listen to music in order to get that character going in a movie I'm in and I watch a movie in order to get the same thing with music. Q: Is it hard doing comedy after achieving so much fame in other areas? JF: Jay Leno does stand-up. Cosby does stand-up. It's what we do. We don't measure it by the money we make, but the fact that we can go back to our roots and still do it. Foxx Trivia
