It comes as no surprise to R&B fans that Maxwell's long anticipated new album would dominate the music charts.

The singer saves the state of R&B's present-day lackluster music scene with an album that fans have been waiting seven years for. Released on July 7, 2009, Maxwell immediately shot up to the top of the Billboard album charts this week with over 316,000 units sold according to SoundScan, a career-high for the Soul singer.

Maxwell may have left his wild curly crop behind, but his music is just as soulful and satisfying. It’s obvious that Maxwell still has love and relationships on his mind with such songs as "Love You," "Fistful of Tears," and the lead single "Pretty Wings" from his new critically-acclaimed album BLACKsummers'night, which was recorded live in the studio.

Music JourneySince the highly-praised soul singer stepped onto the music scene in 1996 with the jazz inspired Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite, Maxwell catapulted Neo Soul as a stand alone genre and followed with a brilliant live performance for MTV's Unplugged. Maxwell's untimely success would continue to grow with the smooth funk inspired LP, Embrya, and his most successful single "Fortunate," written by R. Kelly, off his third studio album, Now.

However, after scoring his first number one hit album with Now in 2001, Maxwell vanished from the music scene altogether leaving fans in a state of disarray. Without explanation, Maxwell reemerged seven years later with a 25-city tour just in time to save R&B from the grasp of auto tune.

Maxwell has no intentions in leaving his fans without as he did for almost a decade, as BLACKsummers'night is the first part of a planned trilogy set with the following albums slated for release in 2010 and the third in 2011.

U.S. Tour
